Practical issues of Turkmenistan's interaction with the OSCE were considered

Today, foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov met with Secretary General of the Organization for security and co-operation in Europe Thomas Greminger in a video conference, the website of the foreign Ministry reports.

During the meeting, practical issues of Turkmenistan's interaction with the OSCE were discussed. The need to coordinate efforts to address the socio-economic and humanitarian issues caused by the coronavirus pandemic was emphasized.

The OSCE Secretary General highly appreciated the measures taken by the country's leadership in the field of public health and safety, emphasizing the importance of initiatives in the development of international mechanisms to ensure the stability of cargo flows and transit transport in emergency conditions. The parties were United in the opinion that these aspirations have a favorable impact on the situation of neighboring countries.

Considering a large number of successful projects and programs, the parties noted a high level of interaction on key aspects, including the fight against terrorism, illicit drug trafficking, and human trafficking. In this context, the importance of the national strategy of Turkmenistan for preventing violent extremism and countering terrorism for 2020-2024 was noted.

Regional issues, energy security and interstate actions to ensure sustainable transport, including the OSCE project "Promoting the development of green ports in the Caspian Sea region", water issues and environmental security were also discussed.

They confirmed their interest in developing cooperation in the field of digital media and cybersecurity.

Today, Thomas Greminger also met online with the Chairman of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan Gulshat Mammedova. Key aspects of inter-parliamentary interaction within the OSCE became the main topic of discussion.
