On May 8, the Baltic Sea Philharmonic orchestra, which brings together more than 100 musicians from Russia, the Baltic region, Eastern and Western Europe, will perform Dmitry Shostakovich's Seventh ("Leningrad") Symphony online as part of the international project "Music of the world" for the 75th anniversary of Victory. This is reported by TASS with reference to the Fund for cultural and educational programs "Open sea".

The seventh Symphony was written by the composer in the besieged Leningrad. It was first performed in the besieged city on August 9, 1942, under the direction of Evgeniy Mravinsky. The queues for tickets were longer than for bakeries...

Mikhail Simonyan, President of the "Open sea" foundation and organizer of the campaign, talks about the project in this way.

- We planned that the project's concerts will be held at open venues in Berlin, Sofia, Vienna, and Torgau. However, given the coronavirus pandemic, we had to convert the project to an online format. A huge number of our foreign friends are involved in this project.

108 musicians United in a virtual orchestra, and each of them, being in their own country, at home in self - isolation, prepared an audio and video recording of the first movement of Dmitry Shostakovich's Seventh Symphony. The concert was directed by Irina Mironova.

- The blockade during which Shostakovich wrote this Symphony was terrible. We can transfer those emotions to the current situation of global quarantine. There is only one way out of such situations: to stick together and unite, said conductor and music Director Kristjan Jarvi.

Broadcast of the concert from the Hall of Fame in the Victory Museum on Poklonnoy hill will begin at 15: 00 Moscow time on the website of the open sea Foundation.
