It is important to join efforts in addressing the large-scale humanitarian issues caused by the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic. Assistance to migrants, refugees and vulnerable segments of the population, especially in developing countries, should remain a priority on the organization's agenda. This Was stated by the President of Turkmenistan, speaking today at a video meeting of the contact group of the non-aligned Movement, which is being held under the chairmanship of Azerbaijan.

The Turkmen leader noted that the need for joint work of member States in ensuring global food security, the unity and firmness of positions of non-aligned countries to address issues of access for States and regions to food resources, ensuring nutrition as an inalienable right of any person.

Having identified the provision of lasting peace and security as a crucial condition for achieving the goals set and overcoming the current crisis, the head of Turkmenistan stated that it is impossible to talk about a successful fight against the pandemic, overcoming its consequences against the background of wars and conflicts.

"Therefore, we, the States of the non – aligned Movement, must resolutely declare our firm commitment to the peaceful resolution of all international disputes and contradictions," Berdimuhamedov stressed.

Last September, at the initiative of Turkmenistan, the UN General Assembly unanimously adopted a resolution declaring 2021 the International year of peace and trust. In this regard, the Turkmen leader appealed to the countries of the non-aligned Movement to actively contribute to the achievement of the goals set out in the text of the resolution and to contribute to the peaceful and constructive development of processes on the planet.

Expressing the conviction that the potential of the non-aligned Movement and the high humanistic ideals on which it is based are in demand today more than ever, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov expressed confidence that the countries participating in the Movement will jointly overcome the crisis and start further creative work.

The non-aligned movement was established at the Belgrade conference in 1961. It includes countries that did not want to participate in the NATO or Warsaw Pact bloc. Now the movement unites States that refused to join military blocs.
