The first issue of the quarterly scientific and practical journal "Foreign policy and diplomacy of Turkmenistan" published by the Ministry of foreign Affairs in three languages – Turkmen, English and Russian – was published this year. The Central place on its pages is given to the international conference "Turkmenistan and international organizations: cooperation for peace and development", held in Ashgabat on January 14 with the participation of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

The largest forum, to which representatives of reputable organizations were invited, launched the anniversary events planned for 2020, which are held under the motto "Turkmenistan is the homeland of Neutrality".

The collection of materials on this topic opens with the text of the President's speech at the above-mentioned conference. Recalling that this year our country, together with the entire world community, will widely celebrate the 25th anniversary of international recognition of the status of neutrality, the head of state stressed that this is a landmark event in the history of independent Turkmenistan, a milestone in its foreign policy.

Today, Turkmen neutrality is a significant factor in regional security. Its basic principles are fully consistent with the UN's strategic guidelines in Central Asia, aimed at turning the region into a zone of peace and cooperation, a solid link to continental stability.

As head of state Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov stated, the UN can always count on the support of Turkmenistan, which uses political and diplomatic means inherent in neutrality to create an atmosphere of mutual understanding and trust, favorable conditions for equal and constructive partnership.

The effectiveness of Turkmenistan's foreign policy and the conformity of its principles with the long-term interests of the international community were confirmed by the UN Deputy Secretary-General, Executive Secretary of the UN economic Commission for Europe Olga Algaerova and the UN Permanent Coordinator in Turkmenistan Elena Panova.

In their articles published on the pages of the magazine, the authors expressed their high interest in further deepening the fruitful multi-faceted cooperation with our country.

As noted, Turkmenistan was one of the first States to officially adopt the sustainable development Goals and adapt them to national plans and socio-economic programs. There is a lot of joint work to be done to promote the initiatives that have been launched, develop existing formats and platforms for interaction, and deepen dialogue in key areas in the interests of peace and stability.

Turkmenistan also pays special attention to strengthening friendly and mutually respectful relations with its neighboring States. The bilateral talks held by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov with President Ilham Aliyev during his official visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan on March 11 were indicative in this regard.

During the next summit, the parties noted with satisfaction the high level of trust and mutual understanding, as well as the closeness of approaches and positions on topical issues of world politics, and confirmed their desire to give a new impetus to traditional cooperation, which was initially built on the principles of respect and consideration of national interests.

Najibullah Alikhil, Ambassador extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan to Turkmenistan, expressed gratitude to the President of our country for his assistance in establishing peace, stability and economic development of Afghanistan.

For many years, Turkmenistan has provided targeted economic and humanitarian support to its neighboring country. It is expressed in the construction of medical and educational institutions, preferential electricity supplies, training of Afghan students in Turkmen educational institutions, regular dispatch of humanitarian supplies, and other types of assistance.

Much attention is paid to the implementation of major infrastructure projects in such vital areas as energy, transport and communications. Their implementation is the most important factor in the political stabilization, economic and social reconstruction of Afghanistan and its successful integration into regional and global economic processes.

Other relevant topics covered in the publication include priority international principles in the country's development based on the policy of neutrality, Turkmenistan's contribution to ensuring global energy security, and the importance of positive initiatives in improving foreign economic activity.

Numerous forums, exhibitions, political consultations, and negotiations with delegations from different countries and reputable organizations are evidence of a consistent and unwavering commitment to this course.

Bilateral meetings held in Ashgabat and abroad in January-March of this year have been given the traditional heading "Chronicle of diplomatic life", the state news Agency of Turkmenistan reports.
