Turkmenistan denied receiving multimillion-dollar economic aid from the United States

The Ministry of foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan denied receiving multimillion-dollar economic assistance from the United States.

"In recent days, some international media outlets have reported that the United States has provided millions of dollars in economic aid over 20 years. The Turkmen side States that this information is unreliable and emphasizes that economic cooperation between Turkmenistan and the United States is based on the principles of mutual benefit and equal partnership," the official message of the Ministry of foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan reads.

The Turkmen foreign Ministry reports that "for more than a quarter of a century, state structures and economic entities of Turkmenistan have implemented together with US companies 167 projects (contracts) totaling about 3.5 billion us dollars in the electric power industry, civil aviation, aerospace, agriculture and a number of other strategically important areas."

"The Turkmen side, as a customer of construction of electric power facilities, supply, aviation, agriculture, road construction equipment, and perform work and services with the participation of American companies have always made the payment within the above mentioned projects at the expense of own funds", – reads the statement of the foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan.

Earlier, a press release from the us Embassy reported that "over the past 20 years, the United States has invested more than $ 201 million in economic support in Turkmenistan, including about $ 21 million in health care.
