In the first two months of this year, China imported more than 7.6 billion cubic meters of natural gas from Central Asia. And the total volume of deliveries of "blue fuel" to China via the Turkmenistan-China gas pipeline, since its commissioning, as of March 7, amounted to 304.6 billion cubic meters.
Reporting on this, the “Xinhua” news Agency, China Central television (CCTV) and other media emphasize that this gas pipeline has become the first land-based transnational energy corridor for China. Today it is the longest in the world – about 10 thousand km.
The highway, which has been operating reliably for more than 3,700 days, originates in Turkmenistan and runs through Uzbekistan and southern Kazakhstan to the Khorgos border station. Then it is transported through Hunan and Hubei provinces to Shanghai, the world's largest city by population. Thus, gas from Central Asia benefits more than 500 million residents of 27 provinces, municipalities, Autonomous regions and the Hong Kong special administrative region.
Special emphasis in publications is placed on the environmental benefits of natural gas. In this regard, it is noted that 300 billion cubic meters of natural gas, which were obtained from Central Asia, allowed to reduce the use of coal by 399 million tons. Accordingly, carbon dioxide and sulfur dioxide emissions were reduced by hundreds of millions of tons.
In early March, Chinese media also spread information to CNN that Chinese companies continue to implement their foreign oil and gas projects in accordance with previously planned plans, including on the right Bank of the Amuderya in Turkmenistan and on the construction of the first object of the fourth branch (line D) of the “Central Asia-China” gas pipeline – a tunnel in Tajikistan.
