To conduct a joint analysis of the state of trade and economic relations has proposed today by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov during the Turkmen-Azerbaijani talks at the highest level in Baku, according to the State news Agency of Turkmenistan.

In this regard, the recent progress in the trade and economic sphere between the two countries was noted. Thus, the trade turnover for 2019 increased by more than 40% compared to 2018. We have developed a good experience of interaction at the government and departmental levels. However, the level of cooperation does not yet reflect the real potential.

Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan are now able to increase existing indicators and diversify mutual supplies.

Both countries have a strong industrial and agricultural base and modern transport infrastructure. These factors should be fully used to expand mutual trade and attract investment. We need access to large-scale projects in industrial cooperation, services, and the agricultural sector.

"In this aspect, it is necessary to intensify the activities of the intergovernmental Commission on economic cooperation. We expect it to make concrete proposals to increase not only the quantitative but also the qualitative indicators of trade and economic partnership," the head of Turkmenistan said.

In order to increase trade and economic cooperation, the Turkmen leader proposed to consider the establishment of the Trade house of Turkmenistan in Baku and, accordingly, the Trade house of Azerbaijan in Ashgabat. In addition, the importance of creating a joint Business Council was noted.

"There are great opportunities for partnership between the business communities of the two countries. Through the Union of Industrialists and entrepreneurs in our country, major projects are being implemented in construction, trade, infrastructure construction, services, tourism and entertainment industries. Turkmenistan would welcome the active participation of Azerbaijani companies in these projects," the Turkmen leader said.
