A regular meeting of the Interdepartmental Commission on ensuring compliance with Turkmenistan's international obligations in the field of human rights and international humanitarian law was held today in Ashgabat.

The event, which was held in the conference hall of the Ministry of foreign Affairs, was attended by representatives of the national Parliament, ministries and departments, public organizations of the country, as well as a number of international organizations, according to the state news Agency of Turkmenistan.

The agenda included a wide range of issues on priority areas of cooperation with specialized UN agencies and other authoritative structures in the field of human rights and international humanitarian law, as well as Turkmenistan's accession to international conventions and their optional protocols.

It was noted that the country has implemented and is currently taking measures aimed at democratizing society and strengthening the legal foundations of statehood. This is evidenced by the consistent improvement of the legislative and legal framework, taking into account the key vectors of socio-economic development of the state and the fundamental principles of international law.

In this regard, one of the important activities of the Commission is to monitor national legislation and prepare relevant recommendations, as well as to raise public awareness of the Provisions and Laws of Turkmenistan aimed at ensuring human rights and freedoms.

During the meeting, representatives of international organizations stressed that over the past years, a constructive partnership has been established with Turkmenistan on issues of ensuring and implementing human rights. Within the humanitarian dimension, international organizations actively maintain close cooperation with the office of the Ombudsman and assist in the implementation of National action plans in the field of human rights and gender equality.

The Commission's priority tasks also include ensuring that National reports (NR) are prepared and submitted to UN committees for consideration.

The participants of the forum noted that the proposals for the normative documents on the implementation of a number of conventions and the implementation of sustainable development Goals, which, as already reported, was one of the largest nationalized government level and adapted to the policy implemented by the President of Turkmenistan.

The participants of the meeting of the Interdepartmental Commission on human rights also discussed the draft law of Turkmenistan "on international humanitarian assistance", which is intended to establish the legal, organizational and economic basis for providing international humanitarian assistance in emergency situations.
