In anticipation of the upcoming New year, the UNICEF Representative in Turkmenistan Christina Weygand has addressed new year greetings to the people of Turkmenistan. The text of the greeting is published on the pages of the state newspaper "Neutral Turkmenistan".
Dear friends!
New year is a magical time for children all over the world. This is the time when families gather to celebrate the beginning of a new stage in their lives. This is a time to reflect on the achievements of the past year and set new goals. This is a time of hope for a bright future, peace and prosperity for all.
2020 is full of significant milestones. Turkmenistan will celebrate the 25th anniversary of neutrality. We will celebrate the 75th anniversary of the United Nations, of which Turkmenistan is an active member state. As UNICEF, we will continue to work with all stakeholders to advance the sustainable development Agenda as well as the Convention on the rights of the child.
On the eve of the new year, I would like to thank the government of Turkmenistan for our joint achievements. At a high level, we celebrated the 30th anniversary of the Convention on the rights of the child and the 25th anniversary of its ratification by Turkmenistan. Turkmenistan has demonstrated its commitment to the Convention by adopting the national plan of action for the rights of the child in 2018 and launching its implementation in 2019.
The new year will bring new opportunities for new initiatives and new partnerships to achieve results for children. Together with the Government, we have begun preparations for our next joint cooperation program for 2021-2025. Our tireless efforts will be aimed at improving the lives of children and young people.
I am grateful to the government of Turkmenistan and all our partners for their support and cooperation with UNICEF to ensure that every child develops to his / her best potential. I look forward to fruitful cooperation next year and I am sure that we will achieve great success together.
