According to AZERBAIJAN STATE NEWS AGENCY, referring to the press service of "Azerbaijan airlines" CJSC (AZAL), for the first time in the history of civil aviation in Azerbaijan, the so-called regime of the fifth and seventh degree of freedom of air space will begin to operate in all international airports of the country.
Starting from January 1, 2020, these degrees of freedom will allow flights from Azerbaijan airports to 40 countries in Europe, North America, Australia and South-East Asia.
The higher the degree of freedom, the more actions foreign vessels are allowed to perform in the airspace of Azerbaijan.
Thus, the fifth degree of freedom allows foreign airlines to operate flights from their airport to other cities with a stop in Baku (or any other airport in Azerbaijan) for boarding/disembarking passengers. For example, under the fifth freedom, European air carriers will be able to fly from Paris to Tokyo with a stop in Baku (or another airport in the country). Or Japanese airlines can fly to the EU countries with landing at one of the international airports of Azerbaijan.
The transition of Azerbaijan's international airports to the fifth degree of air freedom will also give an additional incentive for the development of the non-oil sector of the economy and will contribute to the opening of new jobs in the country.
The seventh degree of freedom allows the carrier to carry out flights between Azerbaijan and foreign countries, bypassing the intermediate landing at the home airport. For example, a European airline can fly to Azerbaijan, for example, from Dubai, and then follow to one of the us cities without landing in their country.
Under the new conditions, all foreign airlines that want to operate flights to Azerbaijan and beyond will receive the same rights as the national air carrier.
This will increase the interest of foreign airlines to fly to Azerbaijan, open new markets for them, and allow them to significantly increase their passenger traffic and increase the attractiveness for tourists.
With the arrival of foreign airlines, the citizens of Azerbaijan will have a large selection of direct flights to the countries of the near and far abroad, and more opportunities for travel will open up.

The introduction of the fifth and seventh degrees of air freedom in all international airports of the country will increase the number of flights from Azerbaijan, increase the country's transport accessibility in the foreign market, as well as allow to realize the country's tourist potential and provide competitive offers for passengers. Our citizens will have the opportunity to expand the geography of their travel and reduce the cost of travel to Europe, Asia, Australia and North America," AZAL President Jahangir Askerov said.
