More than twenty thousand participants from almost 200 countries, representing about 100 international and public organizations, took part in the forum.

As you know, Turkmenistan has been chairing The International Fund for saving the Aral Sea and the Interstate Commission on sustainable development for the past three years. In accordance with its mandate, the country coordinated the intensification of the regional environmental and water dialogue, including on the General climatic situation. In cooperation with other countries of the Central Asian region, Turkmenistan takes an active part in developing joint approaches to addressing key issues of the Aral Sea basin. This was reflected in the development of the next action Program to assist the countries of the Aral Sea basin, the Regional environmental protection program for the sustainable development of Central Asia, as well as the UN Special program for the Aral Sea basin.

At this forum, Turkmenistan made a report that the issues of environmental protection and, in particular, the fight against climate change are priorities in the state policy of the country. Given the importance and global nature of this problem, in recent years the country has significantly strengthened its activities to contain the effects of climate risks, as evidenced by the adoption this year of a new edition of the national strategy of Turkmenistan on climate change. This document reflects not only the environmental but also the socio-economic aspects of the country's development, provides concrete results in the field of adaptation to climate change, including the protection of biodiversity, combating desertification, land and water resources management.
