The international mountain day is celebrated on December 11

The international mountain day was established by UN General Assembly resolution a/RES/57/245 and has been celebrated annually since 2003.

The Resolution, in particular, proposes "To organize events on this day at all levels to promote the importance of sustainable development of mountain regions".

Every year the mountain Day has its theme and motto. For example, last year it was celebrated under the motto "The Meaning of mountains". The theme of 2019: "Mountains are important for young people", because young people are the future leaders of tomorrow, the custodians of natural resources, who will take care of the ecology and preservation of the planet in the conditions of the already coming climate change.

Ashgabat mountaineering club "Agama" is an active conductor of the policy of educating young people in the spirit of love for mountains and nature, developing professional climbing skills, and advocating a healthy lifestyle. Members of the club organize ascents to mountain peaks, Championships in mountaineering and its sports varieties, joint trips. In addition, the "Agama’s people" are creative people: they love the bard song, write poems, arrange photo contests on the themes of love for the native nature, mountains, gifts of the Turkmen land. 

The activities of the club also apply to people with disabilities and their families. So, in September of this year "Agama" in partnership with TOS and TOG organized in Ashgabat climbing festival "White cane", the purpose of which was to instill faith in people with disabilities that with the will and the desire to conquer any height, the main thing to overcome the fear and mental laziness inside. Agama also conducts inclusive mountain hikes with the participation of people with disabilities.
