Turkmenistan strengthens cooperation with the International Organization for Migration

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan held a meeting with Zeynal Gajiyev, the Regional Coordinator of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) for Central Asia, head of IOM missions in Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyzstan Republic, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan reported.

According to the information, during the talks, priority areas of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the International organization for migration, including the implementation of joint plans and the development of programs for 2020, were discussed. The need to coordinate actions to address global migration issues, including assistance to migrants in emergency situations, as well as the prevention of human trafficking was noted by the participants of the meeting.  The effectiveness of cooperation in international formats, including the Global Treaty on safe, orderly and legal migration, was also a topic of discussion between the parties.

According to the source, important initiatives of Turkmenistan in the field of support to migrants and stateless persons were noted by the parties during the negotiations, as well as the need for further special trainings and seminars with the involvement of international experts.  The participants of the meeting expressed hope for further development of international cooperation in the field of migration.
