The Declaration on strategic economic cooperation was adopted at the Ashgabat CIS summit

The summit of CIS heads of state concluded today in Ashgabat with the ceremony of signing the final documents aimed at strengthening and progressive development of constructive cooperation in the CIS format.

Among the signed documents, it is necessary to highlight the Declaration on strategic economic cooperation of the Commonwealth of Independent States and the Address of the heads of the Commonwealth of Independent States to the peoples of the Commonwealth countries and the world community in connection with the 75th anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet people in the great Patriotic war of 1941-1945.

According to the State news Agency of Turkmenistan, the summit also signed the decision on chairmanship in the Commonwealth of Independent States in 2020, about holding the next meeting of the Council of CIS heads of state, the chair of the Executive Committee – Executive Secretary of the CIS and a number of other documents.

In conclusion, summarizing the results of the summit and referring to the key criteria of our country's chairmanship in the CIS this year, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov stressed that, in carrying out this mission, Turkmenistan consistently went to achieve its goals.

Thus, the Turkmen side solved the tasks of strengthening trust and mutual understanding between the CIS States, maintaining stability in the Commonwealth, intensifying cooperation with international organizations, strengthening cooperation between the foreign ministries of the CIS countries.

Taking this opportunity, the Turkmen leader expressed gratitude to his colleagues - heads of the Commonwealth States, who supported the above-mentioned Declaration submitted by Turkmenistan. In this regard, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov expressed the General opinion that this document will serve as a reliable basis for the activation and expansion of mutually beneficial trade and economic cooperation, strengthening partnership between the CIS countries.

The head of Turkmenistan also stressed that today, among other documents, an Appeal of the CIS heads of state to the peoples of the Commonwealth countries and the world community was adopted in connection with the 75th anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet people in the great Patriotic war of 1941-1945. In modern conditions, this document is of particular importance.

As it was noted, a wide range of problems were discussed at the meeting, specific proposals were made to improve cooperation in almost all spheres of activity. In this regard, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov addressed a request to the CIS Executive Committee to develop measures for the practical implementation of all the proposals and comments of the heads of state.

In conclusion, the head of Turkmenistan expressed his gratitude to all CIS bodies, experts, officials and employees who directly participated in the development of draft documents, preparation and holding of events, and thus contributed to the successful presidency of our country.

Thanking everyone for their joint work, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov declared the meeting of the Council of heads of state of the Commonwealth of Independent States closed.
