After the meeting in narrow format meeting of the Council of CIS heads of state continued in an expanded format with participation of official delegations of the countries of the Commonwealth, according to the State News Agency of Turkmenistan.

Welcoming the participants of the forum, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov stressed that great hopes are associated with the holding of this meeting in the context of the progressive development of the CIS.

"A serious and detailed discussion on the most important aspects of cooperation, the definition of priorities and prospects for partnership between the Commonwealth States has just taken place in a narrow format," the President said, expressing confidence that all the issues discussed will find an effective solution. In this regard, the head of the Turkmen state stressed that the CIS is an active format of interstate cooperation, demonstrating its effectiveness.

"Today our goal is to give the CIS new impulses, bring it to the level that meets the modern trends of development, to ensure the ability of the Commonwealth to adequately and timely respond to changes in the international and regional agenda from this comes to Turkmenistan as they develop their approaches to the activity of the CIS", — said President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

Among the unconditional priorities of our cooperation, the Turkmen leader continued, was and remains the strengthening of lasting peace and security in the Commonwealth. At the same time, the most important task in the context of ensuring strategic and regional stability is to strengthen cooperation and channels of interaction between the CIS and major international organizations, primarily The United Nations.

The head of Turkmenistan expressed confidence that the parties have common goals here. "We have something to offer each other, and the CIS system dialogue with the UN will be useful," President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said. Within the framework of this dialogue, specific topics such as countering cyber threats and information security are relevant. In this context, the Turkmen leader called for intensifying cooperation with specialized UN agencies in the fight against the terrorist threat, organized crime and drug trafficking.

As you know, on September 12 this year, the UN General Assembly unanimously adopted a resolution initiated by Turkmenistan to declare 2021 the International year of peace and confidence. Addressing words of gratitude to all CIS countries for supporting this initiative, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov called on the Commonwealth States to work together to implement the goals laid down in this document.
