Today, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received Chairman of the Executive Committee – Executive Secretary of the CIS Sergey Lebedev, the state news Agency of Turkmenistan reported.
Expressing sincere gratitude to the Turkmen leader for his support in the development of constructive cooperation in the CIS, S. Lebedev stressed Turkmenistan's proactive approach to strengthening economic and humanitarian ties within the Commonwealth.
In recent years, Turkmenistan has repeatedly become a venue for important meetings and forums under the auspices of the CIS. This year, Turkmenistan also chaired a number of important events, including a meeting of the Council of heads of government and the CIS Economic Council, which were very productive.
Thanking you for the warm words, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov stressed that our country is always open to its friends and partners. Being committed to the traditional dialogue in the format of the Commonwealth, neutral Turkmenistan seeks to contribute in every possible way to strengthening the historically established ties of friendship and good-neighborliness that unite the peoples of the CIS member States. As the Chairman of the CIS this year, our country approaches this mission in the most responsible way, advocating the intensification of multifaceted cooperation.
According to the source, during the meeting, the head of state and his guest noted the availability of wide opportunities for further development of mutually beneficial partnership within the Commonwealth, including in such topical areas as trade and economic sphere, transport and communications, energy, modern technologies, contacts through business structures.
In this context, the agenda of the meeting of the Council of CIS heads of state, which is scheduled for October 11 in Ashgabat, became the subject of interesting discussion.
As noted, the summit will consider the draft Declaration on strategic economic cooperation of the CIS member States, initiated by the President of Turkmenistan. The adoption of this document will undoubtedly contribute to the strengthening of traditional interstate ties and the development of a broad effective partnership in the CIS format.
Highly appreciating Turkmenistan's chairmanship in the Commonwealth of Independent States, Sergei Lebedev expressed gratitude to President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov for the excellent organization of all the events.
At the same time, the guest emphasized the importance of the first Caspian economic forum, held in August in the national tourist zone "Avaza", which was attended by representatives of almost all CIS countries.
At the end of the meeting, the President of Turkmenistan and the Chairman of the Executive Committee – Executive Secretary of the Commonwealth of Independent States expressed confidence that the implementation of the diverse potential of cooperation will serve to further strengthen friendship and effective partnership between the CIS countries, the information said.
