Ferry service between Turkmenbashi and Makhachkala is planned to be launched in 2020

Ferry service between the cities of Makhachkala (Russia) and Turkmenbashi (Turkmenistan) is scheduled to open in 2020, reports TASS.

According to the information, the ferry will be able to carry up to 1 million tons of cargo per year, acting Minister of economy of the Republic of Dagestan (Russia) Gadji Sultanov told TASS

"Now the Turkmen company "Turkmen Milli logistics" is engaged in the issue of ferry service. We expect a solution to this issue by April-May 2020," Gadji Sultanov said.

In 2002, a ferry was launched between the city of Turkmenbashi and Makhachkala, the route lasted about a year. After almost two decades, much has changed, including the increased transport and transit potential of Turkmenistan, which in 2018 was opened in the region's largest international seaport of Turkmenbashi. The total area of the sea Harbor, equipped in accordance with the requirements of international standards, is 1 million 385.5 thousand square meters with a pier length of 3.6 thousand meters.
