Parliamentarians of Turkmenistan discussed Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov’s initiative on the establishment of a bicameral Parliament

At the seventh session of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan of the sixth convocation held today in Ashgabat, the deputies discussed the initiative of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to create a bicameral Parliament. It was nominated by the Turkmen leader at the second meeting of the Halk Maslahaty (People's Council) of Turkmenistan and received unanimous support from the participants of the national forum.

Noting the importance and timeliness of the initiatives of the President, deputies in their speeches stressed that the change in the structure of Parliament and its transformation into a legislative representative body of our state, and in this context – change and improve certain provisions of the Constitution are an integral part of the process of democratic transformations in the country and the society.

Parliamentarians also approved the results of the first meeting of the Constitutional Commission. The deputies expressed their readiness to take an active part in the work to explain to voters the importance of the changes made to the Constitution and legislation of Turkmenistan, to summarize the proposals and wishes expressed during the national discussion, the State news Agency reported.

At the meeting of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan also adopted a number of laws and normative-legal acts.
