The swimmer from Turkmenistan Merdan Atayev won the silver of the Asian championship

Merdan Atayev, a 24-year-old swimmer from Turkmenistan, won the silver medal of the 10th Asian aquatics Championships in age groups today. Competitions are held under the auspices of the swimming Federation of Asia (AASF) in the Indian city of Bengaluru, which gathered 2.5 thousand athletes from 35 countries, contesting medals in different age groups in four water disciplines – swimming, diving, water floor, and synchronized swimming.

According to the Times of India, the Turkmen swimmer won the silver medal in the 50-meter backstroke. Merdan Atayev finished with a time of 26.30 seconds, 0.48 seconds short of his Turkmenistan record, recorded in 2017 at the IV solidarity Games of Islamic countries in Baku. The winner in this kind of program was Srihari Natraj (India) – 25,30 seconds, rounded out the top three Haratin Kazipet (Thailand) – of 26.36 seconds.

Merdan Atayev two – time silver medalist of Islamiada 2017 in Baku at distances of 50 and 100 meters backstroke, has participated twice in the finals of the summer Asian games 2014 in Incheon (Republic of Korea) took the 7th place in the 100 m, and in 2018 in Jakarta (Indonesia) – 8th at a distance twice shorter. He also holds the record of Turkmenistan in swimming 100 meters backstroke – 55.34 seconds, set this year at the 18th world Championships in Gwangju (Republic of Korea). Merdan Atayev improves skills under the guidance of honored coach of Turkmenistan Sergey Epifanov.
