"Azerbaijan may consider the possibility of transit of Turkmen gas through its territory in case of initiative on the part of importers of Turkmen gas or Ashgabat itself, "head of the foreign policy department of the Azerbaijani Presidential Administration Hikmet Hajiyev said during the seminar on the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Contract of the century, Trend reports.

"In the process of transporting Turkmen gas, Azerbaijan can become a transit country. But, of course, this decision does not depend on Azerbaijan and should be taken by exporters and importers. If such a decision is made, Azerbaijan may consider its participation as a transit country. However, of course, the final decision should be made by the third party," Hajiyev said.

In turn, Deputy Minister of the energy of Azerbaijan Elnur Soltanov noted:

"With regard to the TRANS-Caspian pipeline [the project providing for the transportation of Turkmen gas to Europe through Azerbaijan], Azerbaijan's position is very clear, because here we are not talking about Azerbaijani gas. As for gas belonging to third countries, we are definitely ready to help with its transit in case the appropriate initiative is shown."

Turkmenistan is studying the possibility of bringing its energy resources to the European market. To do this, it is necessary to lay a 300-kilometer gas pipeline along the bottom of the Caspian Sea to the shores of Azerbaijan, the information says.
