Discussions on preparations for the upcoming SPECA Days in Ashgabat were held in Geneva

The UN Office in Geneva hosted a meeting of ambassadors of the UN Special program for Central Asia (SPECA) to discuss preparations for the upcoming November in Ashgabat, within the framework of Turkmenistan's chairmanship in SPECA in 2019, the meeting of the Governing Council and the Economic Forum, according to the foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan.

According to the information, at the beginning of the meeting, the Executive Secretary of the UNECE O. Algaerova, referring to the recent visit to Turkmenistan to participate in the First Caspian forum, introduced the issues discussed in Turkmenistan, in particular: the creation of the SPECA Fund. The UNECE Executive Secretary noted that this proposal was supported by the leadership of Turkmenistan.

According to the source, the regional adviser on trade M. Apostolov briefed the participants of the meeting on the preparations for the upcoming SPECA Days in Ashgabat, scheduled for November.

The heads of UNECE entities, in their presentations, encouraged SPECA countries to participate actively in initiatives and projects at both the regional and sub regional levels in the areas of environment, transport and trade. All speakers called for active participation in support of new initiatives put forward by the EEC, taking into account the needs of the countries of the region, as well as in pursuance of global goals, the information said.
