Today, the foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan, Minister of foreign Affairs R. Meredov met with the UN resident coordinator in Turkmenistan Ms. Elena Panova, reports the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan.

According to the information, during the meeting, the main emphasis was placed on the interaction of the parties in the implementation of initiatives and proposals announced by Turkmenistan in Priority positions at the 74th session of the General Assembly of the United Nations.

According to the source, in particular, the broad opportunities for joint work to unlock the potential of Turkmenistan's neutrality in the context of multilateral efforts to maintain peace, security and develop international partnership were emphasized. In this regard, they expressed their readiness to cooperate in the preparation of the international conference on peace, security, and development in December 2020, dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the international recognition of Turkmenistan as a permanently neutral state.

The timeliness of the initiative to adopt a resolution of the UN General Assembly declaring 2021 the Year of international peace and trust was emphasized.

The UN permanent coordinator drew attention to the practical significance of Turkmenistan's proposals on the need to organize the UN conference on financing for development and the International Ministerial Conference of landlocked developing countries in the framework of the work on the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals at the global level.

During the meeting, the focus on continuing joint work to expand international cooperation in energy security and sustainable transport was outlined.

Touching upon environmental issues, the participants of the meeting discussed a number of practical steps towards the creation of special UN programs for the Aral Sea basin countries and stressed the great potential of the initiative on the establishment of a new UN Caspian environmental program.

It was stressed that during the 74th session of the UN General Assembly Turkmenistan together with the other Member States of the Organization will continue to take concrete practical steps aimed at strengthening the leading and coordinating role of the UN in international Affairs, the information says.
