OSCE training on aviation security procedures completed in Ashgabat

Today, the OSCE organized a training course on the technique of reading x-ray images was completed in Ashgabat, which was attended by 20 customs officers and transport police working at air checkpoints.

The two-week course began with an overview of aviation security procedures and x-ray image reading techniques. An international expert from the UK covered a wide range of issues, including the selection of inspection operators, radiation safety, the recognition of explosive devices, firearms, unusual and improvised weapons, as well as prohibited items, liquids, and powders, according to a press release from the OSCE Center in Ashgabat.

The participants of the course exchanged views on the process of inspection of hand luggage, as well as alternative technologies and methods of inspection, which can be used as a Supplement to the x-ray inspection of Luggage.

"The OSCE is committed to its commitment to assist OSCE participating States in improving the professional skills of police, customs and border protection officers and improving interdepartmental cooperation through the provision of advice and technical assistance, as well as the organization of seminars and training courses at the national and regional level," said Natalia Drozd, head of the OSCE Centre in Ashgabat. – This training is organized within the framework of the Centre's activities to enhance the professional capacity of police and customs officers working at international airports, and we believe that this event will contribute to the efforts of the host country to improve border control procedures and the screening of passengers and Luggage at airports."

The second week of the course was devoted to the training of potential instructors, during which issues such as course planning and preparation of a lesson plan, theory, and methodology of teaching, as well as presentation skills and development of tasks for exams,  were highlighted. Participants emphasized the importance of computer-based training programs and discussed methods for teaching reading x-ray images and pre-safety testing.
