The head of Turkmenistan held talks with the President of Singapore

Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov held talks with Singapore President Halima Jacob at the Istana Palace with the participation of government delegations of the two countries, the State news Agency reported.

The head of Turkmenistan, expressing gratitude for the invitation to visit the Republic of Singapore, a warm welcome and the conditions created for the effective joint work, expressed the belief that the present is the first state visit to this country will be an important step towards the development of friendly bilateral relations and give new impetus to their activation.

According to the information, Turkmenistan and the Republic of Singapore have been carrying out bilateral cooperation on the principles of equality, mutual respect and trust for more than 20 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations. In this context, the talks noted the proximity or coincidence of the positions of the two States on topical issues of the global agenda. Thus, both countries attach great importance to strengthening peace and security, sustainable development, and combating threats and challenges of our time.

One of the priorities of the partnership is to further enhance cooperation in the trade and economic sphere, where there is significant potential, especially in terms of implementation of major projects in the field of trade, fuel and energy complex, chemical and textile industries, transport and communications. In this regard, the parties called for the adoption of specific measures to increase and diversify mutual trade.

An important role in the Turkmen-Singapore cooperation is assigned to joint intergovernmental structures, as well as business councils, the creation of which can give an effective impetus to the development of partnership. In this regard, the head of Turkmenistan noted the possibility of activating additional mechanisms to promote trade and economic relations, for example, such as holding business forums, exhibitions, meetings of experts on a regular basis.

It will also be useful to develop contacts between representatives of the business circles of the two countries in order to establish joint activities and mutually beneficial exchange of experience. Here, as a positive example, we can cite the Turkmen-Singapore business forum held within the framework of the current visit. Speaking for the further use of this form of interaction, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov proposed to hold a second such business forum in Ashgabat.

It also seems appropriate to discuss in detail the prospects of expanding the dialogue in the field of education, science and high technologies, where Turkmenistan is interested in the experience of Singapore colleagues. As President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted, opportunities for cooperation in this area should be considered, including the training of qualified specialists in the framework of exchange programs between the relevant institutions of Turkmenistan and Singapore.

There are good prospects for the successful addition of efforts in the tourism industry. As you know, work on the development of the national tourist zone "Avaza" continues on the Turkmen coast of the Caspian sea, and the Turkmen side welcomes cooperation with Singapore partners in this direction.

In the context of inter-state relations, one of the priorities is also to strengthen fruitful cultural and humanitarian ties. Holding on a regular basis various events, thematic exhibitions, mutual days of culture will greatly contribute to the establishment of closer contacts between the peoples of the two States.

Stressing Turkmenistan's readiness to further develop mutually beneficial relations with the Republic of Singapore, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov invited President Halima Jacob to pay a return state visit to our country at any time convenient for her.

During the talks, which were held in a confidential atmosphere and constructive manner, a wide range of issues of Turkmen-Singapore cooperation was discussed, its priority areas were specified taking into account modern realities and opportunities for the practical implementation of the existing diverse potential.

The sides also exchanged views on topical issues of regional and international policy of mutual interest.

At the end of the meeting, confirming the desire of Turkmenistan and Singapore to develop an effective partnership on a long-term basis, Presidents Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Halima Jacob exchanged best wishes to each other and the peoples of the two countries.
