A round table on the topic “The Importance of International Cooperation in the Development of Renewable Energy” took place today in Ashgabat. The event, held at the Yildiz Hotel, was attended by representatives of the ministries of energy, foreign affairs, education, agriculture and the environment of Turkmenistan, as well as specialists from the International Renewable Energy Agency (IREA), OSCE, UNDP and the World Bank.
According to the Turkmen Foreign Ministry, the statements of the meeting participants were focused on the process of developing the Renewable Energy Development Plan for Turkmenistan until 2030, preparing a report on the prospects for the development of renewable energy in the country, as well as implementing projects in the field of renewable energy in cooperation with international organizations and donors. The forum participants also discussed the development of the regulatory framework and the involvement of the private sector in the renewable energy development process.
Turkmenistan pays great attention to the development of renewable energy sources. The country has favorable conditions for the use of solar and wind energy. In recent years, Turkmenistan has been successfully cooperating in this area with international organizations to exchange experiences and introduce the best international practices.
In October 2018, our country became a full member of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).
