Turkmen judoists finished their performance at the 2019 Zagreb Grand Prix

The international tournament of the 2019 Grand Prix of Zagreb in judo, which played out rating points for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, ended today in Croatia. The competition, the total prize fund of which amounted to 100 thousand US dollars, was attended by 552 athletes (326 men and 226 women) from 86 countries.

The national team of Turkmenistan was represented at the tournament by 7 athletes, the website of the International Judo Federation reports.

Turkmen athletes stopped at the initial stage of the competition.

The best in our team was Hakberdy Jumayev. In the category up to 60 kg he managed to defeat the judoist Luka Mkheidze from France. But in the next fight, Jumayev lost to Sharofiddin Lutfullayev from Uzbekistan. Another representative of Turkmenistan, Ilyas Momunov, also managed to overcome the starting round of the tournament in the weight category up to 66 kg, beating Tala Almog (Argentina). However, in the next sparring, he lost to Georgy Zantaria from Ukraine. In the same weight, the Turkmen judo player Mukhammet Kossekov completed the performance very quickly, losing in the first round to Steven Munganda from Zambia.

Acting last in our team, Mominjan Arzikulov (up to 73 kg) also completed the performance in the first round, losing to Hungarian Szabo Frigiyes.

In the women's weight category up to 48 kg Aziza Nazarova lost to Francesca Giorda (Italy) in the first round, and Rushaa Nurjavova (up to 57 kg) at the same stage failed in a fight with two-time Asian champion and 2018 world champion in Baku Momo Tamaoki (Japan). The famous judo player in our team Gulbadam Babamuratova, who had previously achieved great success in such competitions, this time gave way to the bronze medalist of the 2012 Olympics in London, the champion of the European Games 2015, the world championship and the European Championships, Charlene van Snik (Belgium) and dropped out further struggle.

The winner in the team event was Japan. The second place is from Canada, the third - from Georgia.
