New UNICEF Representative accredited to Turkmenistan

A meeting was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan with the new Representative of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) office, Ms. Christine Weigand, who is starting her mission in our country, the official website of the Foreign Ministry reports.

According to the information, at the beginning of the meeting, the head of UNICEF in Turkmenistan presented her credentials. Congratulating Ms. Weigand on her appointment to a responsible post, the Turkmen side expressed its readiness to assist and support the activities of the representative in all areas related to children's rights. Christine Weigand, in turn, expressed her gratitude to the Turkmen side for warm wishes.

Noting the effective development of mutually beneficial cooperation, the parties discussed issues of further development of relations on children’s issues. Mrs. Weigand thanked the Government of Turkmenistan for its long-term mutually beneficial partnership, for adopting the National Action Plan to implement the rights of the child in Turkmenistan for the period 2018-2022, as well as for the long-term financing of the state budget for vaccination and the purchase of premix for flour fortification.


Earlier, from 2015 to 2019, Christine Weigand worked as Deputy Representative of the UNICEF Office in the Islamic Republic of Iran. From 2012 to 2015, she was the UNICEF Social Policy Chief in the Republic of Madagascar. She is a graduate of Maastricht University (Netherlands) with a degree in international economics.
