Issues of holding a world sambo championship in Ashgabat in 2020 were discussed by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov with the Head of this International Federation (FIAS), Vasily Shestakov, who arrived in the Turkmen capital to participate in World Health Day celebrations, the State News Agency of Turkmenistan reports.
During the meeting, which was held in the Ashgabat Olympic Campus, the guest congratulated the President, the Head of the National Olympic Committee Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov with the decision of the FIAS Executive Committee to hold the World Sambo Championship in Ashgabat.
The venue of this major tournament will be the Olympic Campus, where the V Asian Indoor Games and Martial Arts Games in 2017, the World Weightlifting Championships and the Asian Championships in Sambo, Jiu-Jitsu, Turkmen grief and belt wrestling in 2018 were successfully held.
The President of Turkmenistan stressed that during the construction of the Olympic Campus, all the requirements of the International Olympic Committee, which create the best conditions for organizing competitions at a high level, were met. There is a well-equipped press center, provided with a dedicated high-speed Internet line, a conference room, a doping control center and several medical stations fitted with state-of-the-art equipment.
Highly appreciating the effectiveness of the policy pursued by the Head of State on the development of high performance sport and mass sports and recreation movement, the Head of FIAS confirmed the interest of international sports circles to intensify cooperation with Turkmenistan as a country with a high sports potential and a modern profile infrastructure.
Thanks to modern sports infrastructure and professional approach to organizing sporting events of various levels the World Sambo Championship in Ashgabat will be held at a high level, will be a memorable event and will further enhance the international prestige of Turkmenistan, V. Shestakov expressed his confidence.
