A complex of equipment for the production of iodine, caustic soda and chlorine was put into operation in the Bereket district of the Balkan region. The enterprise was built by "Chemistry Senagat" Business Association, a member of the UIE, on the area of West Chaalja, where the mineralized groundwater field had been discovered. The mass concentration of iodine in natural salt solutions is up to 200 grams per cubic meter, the Golden Age of Turkmenistan reports.

The required raw materials are supplied to technological installations from wells drilled by specialists of Mary Hydrogeological Expedition. By means of the latest equipment, the chemically active mineral is extracted from the salt solutions by air-desorption method. The project of the enterprise was developed by “Yodobrom” Scientific Production Association (RF) on request of entrepreneurs.

The capacity of the first stage of the enterprise will allow extracting up to 160-180 tons of iodine per year. Over the next three years, it is planned to bring iodine production to 500 tons per year.

In the Ekerem region, “Himiya Senagat” ES is constructing industrial buildings for the company which will use the method of extracting elemental iodine from industrial waters used in the extraction of hydrocarbons.
